The set-up for stag beetle species that simply lay eggs on the substrate is simple.
📌 Obtain the case to set-up.
🚩 The minimum requirements for the size of the case will vary depending on the species of stag beetle.
IÂ usually use 4 gallon cases, but I prepared a 105 oz case as testing.
📌 Fill approximately 70% of the case with substrate and compress it tightly.
📌 Fill the substrate about 1 to 2 inches over the compressed substrate.
🔎 Approximately 150 oz of substrate was contained in a 105 oz case.
📌 Place the jellies and screen mesh to prevent stag beetles from flipping over.
🚩 You can add tree bark or something else, but artificial products are recommended to prevent mold.
📌 Put the female into the completed case.
🚩 Since there is a possibility of unfertilized egg, it is appropriate to check whether eggs have been laid every 1-2 months.
🚩 Generally, the ideal temperature for stag beetles to lay eggs is between 73 ~ 80°F.
