✅ Life Cycle:
▪ Incubation period of eggs: Approximately 20-30 days
▪ Substrate used for larvae: LB Flake Soil + Used Flake soil
(Mixed with the substrate used for Dorcus titanus yasuokai larvae)
▪ Amount of flake soil used per larva: Approximately 2.5L (84 oz)
▪ Larval period: 6-8 months
▪ Larval rearing temperature: 24–26°C (75–79°F)
▪ Max larva weight: Males 18 g, Females 15 g
▪ Pupal period: 20-30 days
▪ Max pupa weight: Males 11 g, Females 10 g
▪ Inactive periods: 20-30 days
▪ Maturity period: 20-30 months after inactive periods
(It depends on the individual and its size, the larger they are, the longer it takes)
▪ Life span of adult: 4-6 months
▪ Max adult body length: Males 45.7 mm, Females 39.2 mm
▪ Bekuwa CB Guinness record: 45 mm
Allomyrina pfeifferi is a rhinoceros beetle native to the Malay Peninsula.
It is an attractive species distinguished by its copper-colored body and fine, velvety pubescence. Even large adults reach only about 40 mm, making it a relatively small rhinoceros beetle.
I acquired these larvae as L3 in January 2026, so I do not have any breeding records from the earlier larval stages.
For the substrate, I used a 50/50 mixture of fresh LB Flake Soil and substrate that had previously been used for one month by Dorcus titanus yasuokai larvae. Despite using partially recycled substrate, the larvae developed without any issues.
According to Be-Kuwa, the recorded maximum size for this species is 45 mm. Based on my observations, I do not expect them to exceed 50 mm, even after several captive-bred generations.
As for larval weight, the practical upper limit appears to be around 20 g for males and 15 g for females.

Pupae
Male on the right, female on the left.

Unlike most rhinoceros beetles, Allomyrina species construct their pupal chambers vertically rather than horizontally.
Therefore, an artificial pupal chamber can be easily made using a small paper cup or a similar container.
